Google has announced several updates to its Android and Pixel devices as part of its December feature drop. The updates include new Gemini extensions, an improved Pixel Screenshots app, expressive captions, and accessibility enhancements.
New Gemini extensions will allow users to explore songs and playlists through the Gemini interface, send messages or make calls using their default messaging and calling apps, and control smart home devices. Gemini Advance will also remember user preferences and interests, suggesting recipes based on dietary needs.
In addition, Google is introducing a new expressive captions feature that describes emotions in content, improved auto-enhancements in Google Drive, and a QR code share sheet for photos and videos.
Pixel users can expect an easy-to-operate mode with increased font size and touch sensitivity, theft protection updates requiring biometric authentication, and improved Snap photo picker. The Pixel Screenshots app now categorizes screenshots automatically and suggests actions like adding calendar invites.
New features are also coming to the Pixel Watch 2, including doorbell notifications on Nest Cam and expanded loss of pulse detection for certain users. The Pixel Tablet will receive VPN feature support and lockscreen widget support.
All updates will be available to devices with a Pixel 6 or later, while some specific features will only be available to Pixel 9 devices.
