Google Keep has simplified the bottom portion of its Android app by introducing a new floating action button (FAB), similar to the design found in Google Tasks earlier this year. The update replaces the traditional four-button bar at the bottom, which included options for creating a new list, drawing, audio, and photo notes.
The new FAB is located at the bottom-right corner of the screen and features a dynamic color ‘plus’ sign, allowing users to easily add new Image, Drawing, List, or Text notes. The last option, Text note, is now closest to the user’s finger, with all notes organized into pill-shaped containers.
The redesign echoes that of other Google apps, such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides on mobile, which have also simplified their interface in recent updates. While some users may appreciate the additional screen real estate, starting a list or note is now a two-step action, requiring setting up home screen widgets to achieve one-touch functionality.
The update is being rolled out via server-side changes with version 5.24.432.x of Google Keep for Android. However, iOS users will not see this change in the app.
