Alphabet-owned tech giant Google is laying off employees in its “People Operations” and cloud divisions as part of internal reorganizations. The company plans to cut costs before expanding spending on AI infrastructure by 2025, according to CFO Anat Ashkenazi.
Google has offered buyouts to U.S.-based full-time employees in the “People Operations” division, which will provide a severance package to mid- to senior-level employees. This move comes after the company reported revenue that missed expectations for the fourth quarter and Ashkenazi stated that there is strong demand for AI products.
The cloud unit’s layoffs primarily affect operations support staff, with some roles being relocated to India and Mexico City. The company confirmed the changes, stating that reorganizations are part of its normal course of business. Google will continue to hire for critical sales and engineering roles.
In January, the company offered buyouts to U.S.-based employees in another unit ahead of expected cuts. This move aims to support all affected employees, allowing them time to explore and apply for different roles at Google.
