Google Maps has become the first app to adopt Android 16’s new Live Updates feature, allowing users on beta 2.1 to see the time until their next turn and estimated time of arrival on their device’s status bar.
The feature, introduced in the initial beta release, enables real-time notifications that help users monitor ongoing activities. Similar to iOS’ Live Activities, it provides a new class of notifications that can be accessed quickly.
Google Maps now includes an option to turn off “live info,” which is displayed on the status bar and lock screen. However, full support for Live Updates remains limited, with collapsed notifications still appearing on the always-on display.
Despite the limited adoption, Google has time to add full support before Android 16’s release in June.
