Google has announced a surprise update for Pixel 4A phones, addressing battery performance stability issues. The update will be automatic and roll out from January 8, 2025, to Android 13.
The update may affect some devices with new battery management features, which could lead to shorter battery life between charges. Users of affected devices can also experience reduced charging performance and changes in the battery-level indicator.
Unlike Apple’s infamous “batterygate” scandal in 2017, Google has been transparent about the issue and is offering compensation options for affected owners. They can choose from a free battery swap, a $50 payout, or a $100 credit toward a new Pixel phone.
Not all Pixel 4A devices are impacted by these changes, so users with unaffected devices will not experience any changes in battery performance.
