Google Photos Unveils AI-Powered Editing Tools for 10-Year Anniversary

Google Photos has celebrated its 10-year anniversary with revamped AI-powered editing tools, which were previously exclusive to Pixel phones. The redesigned editor, set to roll out on Android devices in June, features two new tools: Auto Frame and Reimagine.

Auto Frame suggests optimal cropping for photos using AI, while Reimagine adds elements like fall leaves or green grass to enhance visuals. The results can be impressive but also slightly unsettling. Google has acknowledged the authenticity of these edits by watermarking them as AI-generated in recent updates.

The new editor also introduces an AI Enhance feature, which generates three edits with existing tweaks like sharpening and object removal. Users can select the result they prefer.

In addition to the editing tools, the update makes sharing albums easier by introducing a QR code generator that allows users to share album links directly or print them out in groups.

The iOS version of the updated editor is expected to follow “later this year.”
