Google has unveiled its latest Pixel 10 lineup, which will feature a new technology that identifies whether images have been edited using artificial intelligence (AI). The company’s camera app now supports C2PA Content Credentials, an industry-standard that provides transparency about image creation and editing. A digital watermark will be embedded in all photos taken with the Pixel 10 camera, making it possible to verify if an image has been altered.
This feature is part of Google’s growing emphasis on content provenance and authenticity. The company joined the Coalition for Content Provenacity and Authenticity (C2PA) last year and has since developed this technology further. It will be supported in various Google services, including Search, Images, Lens, and Circle to Search.
Users can now expect to see a digital watermark on their photos, which can be viewed using Google Photos. The camera app also features AI-powered editing tools that allow users to apply edits with text or voice prompts. This technology is expected to roll out to Android and iOS devices in the coming weeks, providing an additional layer of authenticity for users to verify image metadata.
