Google is rolling out an update for its Pixel phones with a new feature that summarizes chat conversations. This move comes after Apple’s struggles to implement similar technology. The feature will be available on this month’s Pixel 9 series and newer, but not on the Pixel 9A.
The AI-powered summary will only be displayed for longer conversations in chat apps, giving users more context to work with. Google is also expanding its scam detection feature beyond messages to include Telegram and Discord. When a user receives a suspicious notification, it will display a “likely scam” badge and prompt them to exercise caution.
Additionally, the update includes a new feature called “remix” that allows users to edit photos using AI directly in the Messages app. Priority chat notifications from VIP contacts will also be displayed first on Pixel 6 and newer devices.
It’s worth noting that this update is part of a broader effort by Google to improve its messaging features, including expanding access to scam detection for calls.
