Google has released Android 16 to compatible handsets, bringing several notable features and improvements. Live updates in notifications are now a part of the update, providing users with a progress bar directly within their notification, reducing the need to constantly open and close apps.
The new OS also includes automatic groupings of notifications from the same app, reduced clutter, and support for LE audio hearing aids. Users can switch between phone’s microphone or native hearing aid control for clearer audio in noisy environments.
Enhanced security features are available, including a tap-to-protect option against “online attacks, harmful apps, and scam calls.” Scam detection features have been improved, providing users with an additional layer of protection.
Shutterbugs will appreciate the new suite of camera features, including automatic night mode scene detection, hybrid auto exposure, and precise color temperature adjustments. UltraHDR images have been enhanced, supporting HEIC encoding, and Android 16 offers integration with Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec.
Additionally, Google is bringing desktop windowing to Android, albeit in beta form, for users later this year. The company has also updated its ecosystem features, including RCS group chats, Google Photos’ AI-enhanced image editor, emoji stickers, and Wear OS transit fare payments.
For the month of June, a Pixel Drop update will arrive with features such as the Pixel VIPs widget and expressive captions on videos. Android 16 is now available for compatible devices, marking another step in Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience.
