Google has surprised users by making its latest AI model, Gemini 2.5 Pro (experimental), available for free to all Gemini app users starting today. The new model was announced on Tuesday as the company’s “most intelligent AI model” with enhanced thinking capabilities.
Initially only available to Gemini Advanced subscribers and Google One AI Premium users ($19.99/month in the US), Gemini 2.5 Pro now boasts features like apps/Extensions, file uploads, and Canvas integration. The move is part of Google’s effort to get its most advanced model into more people’s hands as soon as possible.
Gemini 2.5 Pro (experimental) has already topped the LMArena leaderboard in math and science benchmarks, showcasing its capabilities. However, it remains unclear whether the stable version will be made available for free to all users or if this move is a test phase.
This move follows Google’s trend of making more features available to non-Advanced subscribers in recent months, such as Deep Research, Gems, Saved info, and document analysis.
