Google is introducing a kid-friendly version of its popular AI chatbot, Gemini, designed for children under 13. The new version comes with enhanced restrictions and safety features to protect young users.
Gemini Kids allows kids to engage in creative activities like songwriting, storytelling, and learning new things. However, this version has more limitations compared to the regular Gemini app. Parents can manage access to Gemini through their Google Family Link account, receiving a message if their child tries to access the chatbot without permission.
Google warns parents about several key points when letting their kids interact with Gemini:
1. Gemini is not a real person and should not be trusted like one.
2. Its responses may not always be accurate, so double-checking is essential.
3. Never share sensitive or personal information with Gemini.
4. While filters are in place, some content may still be unsuitable for children.
Initially available only for supervised accounts, access to the new Gemini Kids will be gradually released. To stay informed about its availability, parents can check their Google Family Link account regularly.
