Google Rolls Out Simplified Gemini Overlay Design for Android Users

Google has started rolling out a redesigned Gemini overlay on Android devices as of Monday morning. The new design simplifies the existing interface, making it more efficient and user-friendly.

The Gemini overlay, which is triggered by saying “Hey Google,” long-pressing the power button, or swiping up from the bottom corners, now takes up less space on the screen. It seamlessly integrates with the Google Search bar on the Pixel Launcher, covering its entire width.

Key changes to the new design include:

* Removal of the blue/purple glow and circular voice button
* Simplified “Ask Gemini” text input field
* Reorganized camera shortcut into the “+” menu
* Streamlined Gemini Live shortcut placement in a thinner pill-shaped bar

The overlay can expand to show up to four lines of text for long queries. The redesign is currently being tested on Google app beta version 16.1.43 and may not be visible yet on stable channel devices.

Note: This update is only available for users enrolled in the Google app beta program, including free accounts, Gemini Advanced, and Workspace accounts. Samsung and OnePlus devices are not affected by this change.
