Google to Replace Google Assistant with Gemini on Android Phones

Google is set to replace its classic Google Assistant with Gemini as the default virtual assistant on Android phones later this year. This change comes after a year of feature parity updates and follows recent model updates that have brought Deep Research capabilities to all users.

According to Google, the “classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices,” but it will remain available for some older Android versions without sufficient RAM. The new Gemini assistant is already being used by millions of people, and the company plans to focus on improving its quality, especially for those who rely on it.

Google’s AI technology has transformed the way we interact with technology over the past decade, from natural language processing and voice recognition in 2016 to generative AI capabilities. The new Gemini assistant aims to be more personal, aware of the user’s world, and interactive with their favorite apps and services.

Gemini will soon be available on watches, cars, tablets, headphones, speakers, displays, and TVs, building upon its existing presence on Android phones and Wear OS devices like Pixel Buds. The company is also actively testing Gemini on Nest Mini and Audio devices.

As the new assistant takes over, users can expect a more seamless and personalized experience, with Gemini set to become an integral part of Google’s ecosystem.
