Google has officially clarified the level of audio codec support for its Google TV Streamer device. The device does not support Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, DTS-HD MA, or DTS:X audio.
The confusion stemmed from a software bug that listed these formats under ‘Advanced sound settings’. However, Google has now fixed the bug in a new system update released this month. The update removes all mentions of unsupported codecs from the settings menu, correcting users’ misconceptions.
Despite the update, support for certain legacy DTS formats is still available through Android’s open-source codec. This means users can continue to access these formats, but they should not expect any future updates to add support for more advanced audio codecs like Dolby TrueHD or DTS:X.
The fix comes after reports from Reddit and AFTVNews, which highlighted the bug in the device’s settings menu. The update also includes the January 2025 Android OS security patch.
