Google Unveils AI Edge Gallery for Local AI Model Usage

Google has quietly released an app called AI Edge Gallery, which allows Android users to run AI models on their devices without requiring a Wi-Fi connection. The app provides access to “openly available AI models” from Hugging Face, including Google’s Gemma 3n. Users can download and install these models locally, enabling faster responses with reduced server lag.

AI Edge Gallery empowers users to perform tasks like generating images, chatting with the AI, browsing the web, coding, and asking questions on their device. Although local AI models have limitations compared to internet-connected models, they offer several benefits, including improved performance and security. The app is currently available for Android devices through GitHub, with an iOS version expected to follow soon.
