Google is testing a new feature that delivers AI-generated search results as quick, conversational audio overviews for specific searches. The “Search Labs | Audio Overview” tool combines the company’s AI-powered summaries with its NotebookLM technology, which creates audio podcasts featuring two AI hosts discussing uploaded documents.
The test aims to cater to users who prefer to receive search results in an audio format or are busy multitasking. Interested users can opt-in to access the feature. Once selected, the system will generate a 40-second audio clip that cites sources and allows for volume and playback speed adjustments.
Google has seen a significant increase in AI Overview usage, with over 10% more queries using this feature. However, some users have raised concerns about Google relying too heavily on its own AI-powered search results, potentially taking traffic away from third-party websites and spreading incorrect information through its summaries.
