Google has officially released Android 16, its latest major update, for free on Pixel devices, including older models like the Pixel 6 and 7 series. This move allows both software and hardware to shine together, similar to previous releases.
Android 16 brings several key upgrades, starting with improved app updates. Streamlined updates will now display real-time information from your lock screen, helping you stay informed without needing to unlock your phone every time. Additionally, notifications from a single app will be automatically grouped to prevent information overload.
For enhanced protection, Google is introducing Advanced Protection, its strongest mobile device security program. This feature protects against various threats, such as scam calls, malicious apps, and phishing attempts, while also limiting connection to insecure networks and locking your phone when offline for an extended period.
Android 16 will also improve calling experiences on hearing devices, allowing users to switch between their device’s microphone and the built-in front microphone for clearer calls. Furthermore, this update introduces better productivity features, including improved windowing and hotkeys.
These updates are now available on Pixel devices first, with other Android devices expected to receive them later in the year. Visit Android.com/16 for more information on the new features of Android 16.
