Google Unveils Deep Research Tool to Simplify Complex Research

Google is updating its NotebookLM note-taking assistant with a new tool called “Deep Research.” This tool can automate and simplify complex online research, helping users create a deep, organized knowledge base on a topic without leaving their workflow. With Deep Research, you can ask a question, create a research plan, and browse websites on your behalf. After a few minutes, the tool will present you with a source-grounded report that you can add to your notebook.

The new feature supports additional file types, including Google Sheets, Drive files as URLs, PDFs from Google Drive, and Microsoft Word Documents. This update aims to make it easier for users to generate summaries from spreadsheets and quickly copy-paste multiple Drive files as URLs.

These updates should be available to all users within a week. This latest development builds on Google’s efforts to enhance NotebookLM with additional functionality, including Video Overviews and Audio Overviews features introduced earlier this year.
