Google has announced a new feature for its Gemini AI program, dubbed Audio Overviews. This innovative tool allows users to turn any uploaded documents into podcast-like shows, featuring two AI hosts discussing the file’s content.
The Audio Overview feature in NotebookLM, previously only available to a select group of users, is now being expanded to all Gemini subscribers. This move is significant as it adds another layer of complexity and variety to the type of summaries generated by AI. The podcast-style summary offers a deeper dive into the document’s content, making it more engaging and impressive.
Unlike ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, Audio Overview creates an immersive experience where two AI hosts engage in a conversation about the uploaded file. This feature is particularly useful for larger files, as it helps summarize and make them more accessible.
Audio Overviews will be available on the web and in the Gemini app, starting Tuesday, for both Gemini and Gemini Advanced subscribers globally. To access this feature, users simply need to upload their desired files and click on the suggested prompt or look for Audio Overview in the mobile app’s triple-dot menu. The feature is expected to be rolled out initially in English, with plans for additional languages in the future.
