Google Unveils Gemini 2.0 and Project Astra Research Prototype

Google has announced its biggest AI upgrade yet with Gemini 2.0, a significant boost for its generative AI chatbot. The update also provides a glimpse into the company’s universal AI assistant, Project Astra, a research prototype that may lead to smart glasses.

Gemini 2.0 enhances Project Astra’s capabilities, including:

– Multi-language conversation and understanding of accents
– Integration with Google Search, Lens, and Maps for more utility
– Improved memory, allowing up to 10 minutes of in-session recall and personalized interactions

The update also reduces latency by utilizing new streaming capabilities and native audio understanding.

Google has tested the prototype glasses through its Trusted Tester program and plans to release further information on these glasses soon. While smart glasses are not yet available for retail purchase, this marks an exciting development in Google’s AR technology.

Gemini 2.0 and Project Astra research demonstrate Google’s commitment to improving its AI capabilities, with future applications potentially extending beyond Gemini app and glasses.
