Google has launched two new features for its Gemini AI assistant: Canvas and Audio Overviews. These features are available today to Gemini and Gemini Advanced subscribers.
Canvas provides a dedicated workspace where users can create, refine documents, and code in real-time. It includes a live preview feature that allows users to iteratively edit while watching the content evolve. This functionality is similar to Anthropic’s Projects.
The second feature, Audio Overviews, converts written materials into “podcast-style discussions between two AI hosts.” This feature was previously available in Google’s NotebookLM and has now been re-released as part of Gemini. However, it is only currently available in English, with plans for future language support.
Google’s release of these features has drawn attention from its competitors, including OpenAI. The two companies have similar features, such as Projects (Anthropic) and Canvas (OpenAI), which may lead to increased competition in the AI space.
