Google has announced new products and features aimed at healthcare use cases, expanding its search capabilities and medical records APIs. The company’s Search feature now includes expanded “knowledge panel” answers for thousands of health-related topics, as well as support for queries in multiple languages on mobile.
The update also introduces a new feature called “What People Suggest,” which highlights content from users with shared experiences relating to health conditions. This feature builds on Google’s personal health stories feature and aims to provide users with reliable medical information from experts and others who have similar experiences.
In addition, Google has launched new medical records APIs globally for its Health Connect platform for Android devices. These APIs enable apps to read and write medical record information, making it easier to access data across different apps and on devices like phones.
Other health-focused product announcements include the launch of the Loss of Pulse Detection feature on the Pixel Watch 3 smartwatch by the end of March in the US. This feature can detect a loss of pulse due to various causes and automatically prompt a call to emergency services if the user is unresponsive.
Google has also unveiled new open AI models for drug discovery called TxGemma, which will be released in the coming weeks. These models follow the company’s launch of Gemini AI models for multimodal use cases in healthcare.
