Google Unveils Pixel Camera 9.8 with New Features and Remote Connectivity

Google has released its latest camera software update, Pixel Camera 9.8, which brings several new features to the table. The rollout is expected to take some time before all users can access the updated app.

The main highlights of the update include a “Turn on animation for Astrophotography” toggle in Settings > Advanced, allowing users to customize their astrophotography experience. Additionally, the Palm timer feature now works with the rear camera, and Pixel Fold users can enjoy Dual Screen Preview when recording video.

Users of Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices will also benefit from the remote Connected Cameras capability. This feature allows seamless capture or live streaming with supported camera applications using remote cameras, including popular apps like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.

To use this feature, users need to update the Device Connectivity Service app and enable it in Settings > Connected devices. Once enabled, they can access the Camera Picker, a floating container for adding, removing or disconnecting remote cameras.

Key considerations when using Remote Connected Cameras include:

– Only connecting to signed-in Google accounts
– Limitations on simultaneous camera connections (only one at a time)
– Audio source prioritization from the currently used camera
– Potential impact of Bluetooth audio sources on streaming quality

Pixel Camera 9.8 is available for download via the Google Play Store or through sideloads, allowing users to take advantage of these exciting new features.
