Google has released a public preview feature in its Google Home app, allowing users to manage their 2015-2017 Nest cam models, including indoor and outdoor cameras. This means that those who enroll in the public preview can now seamlessly switch between managing all of their nest cams from within one single app, eliminating the need for switching between two separate apps.
The update provides several benefits, including:
* Reviewing video history in event and timeline views
* Accessing camera settings without leaving the Home app
* Viewing live streams from favorite cameras
* Setting up automations
Users can access this feature through either the Google Home app or at home.google.com. Once enrolled in the public preview, users will receive prompts within both apps with instructions on how to transfer their Nest Cam IQ cameras.
Interestingly, this update also includes management capabilities for Nest Hub Max devices, but unlike the camera transfers, there is no option to reverse transfer these devices back to the Nest app.
Google has confirmed that it will continue to support its existing Nest app experience and won’t make any changes to the Nest app at this time. However, users of certain devices like the Nest Protect smoke detector and the Nest x Yale door lock will still need to use the Nest app exclusively.
The public preview is rolling out starting this week, offering a convenient solution for those managing multiple Nest cameras within the Google Home ecosystem.
