Google has announced Veo 3, an AI video generator that can also create and incorporate audio. The tool competes with OpenAI’s Sora video generator but stands out for its ability to include dialogue between characters and animal sounds in the generated videos.
Veo 3 is available on Tuesday to U.S. subscribers of Google’s $249.99 Ultra subscription plan, which caters to hardcore AI enthusiasts. Users can also access Veo 3 through Google’s Vertex AI enterprise platform.
The company has also launched Imagen 4, an image-generation tool that produces higher-quality images with user prompts, and Flow, a filmmaking tool that allows users to create cinematic videos by describing locations, shots, and style preferences.
Veo 3 is the latest addition to Google’s AI portfolio, which includes its mixed track record on AI image generators. Last year, the company relaunched its Imagen 3 tool after historical inaccuracies surfaced due to inadequate testing. However, Veo 3 has shown promise with its advanced features and ability to excel from text and image prompting to real-world physics and accurate lip syncing, according to Eli Collins, Google DeepMind product vice president.
This latest launch comes as imagery and video become increasingly popular use cases for generative AI prompts, following OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s statement that ChatGPT’s 40-image generator was so popular it caused the company’s computing chips to “melt.”
