Google Uses AI Podcast Hosts for In-Depth Search Summaries

Google has introduced an experimental feature in its search engine that uses artificial intelligence to generate podcast-like clips in response to user queries. The Audio Overviews feature utilizes Google Gemini models to create short, conversational audio summaries with two hosts, providing a hands-free and engaging experience.

While ideal for in-depth topics like Flag Day history and significance, the feature is not suitable for basic search queries. Instead, it compiles top search results into an audio clip where the AI hosts discuss and engage each other. Users can adjust playback speed between 0.25x and 2x, as well as access the source webpages.

This expanded Audio Overviews tool was previously limited to Google’s NotebookLM feature but has been made more interactive with real-time question-answering capabilities and a “Deep Dive” option. To test the Audio Overviews feature, users must opt into the Google Labs feature on its website.
