Google Workspace Becomes AI-Powered at No Extra Cost

Google has made its entire Workspace suite, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Meet, free for users to access all AI features without any additional cost. The move comes as the tech giant continues to compete with Microsoft and OpenAI in building an AI-powered office suite.

Prior to this change, businesses had to pay $20 per user per month extra for the Gemini Business plan to utilize Google’s AI features. However, starting Tuesday, these features are now included in all Workspace plans at no extra charge.

While the upgrade is free, companies will have to pay a higher monthly subscription price. According to Jerry Dischler, Google’s president of cloud applications, the base subscription price has increased from $12 per month to $14 for each user. The company believes that this move will help prove the value of its AI-powered Workspace suite.

Google is not alone in making such changes. Microsoft recently announced that its Copilot Pro AI features would become part of the standard Microsoft 365 subscription, removing the need for an additional monthly fee. Both companies are betting that the benefits of incorporating AI into their products outweigh the costs, and will likely see increased adoption and customer growth as a result.

With Workspace AI, users can access various tools such as email summaries, generated designs, automated note-taking, research assistants, and writing tools across multiple apps. The Gemini bot is also included, providing advanced features like information search and chatbot functionality.
