Google X’s former chief business officer Mo Gawdat says the idea that AI will create jobs is “100% crap.” He believes only the best workers in their fields will keep their jobs “for a while” as AGI surpasses human capabilities. Tech titans insist AI will bring about a golden era of humanity, but Gawdat warns that companies are already laying off staff to prepare for an AI-centric workforce.
Gawdat has joined the chorus of leaders sounding alarm bells over AI’s impact on humanity’s future. He advises executives to be aware that their role is also at risk as AI becomes more advanced. “CEOs are celebrating productivity gains, but they don’t think about AI replacing them,” he said. Gawdat believes “incompetent CEOs will be replaced” by AGI.
While the prospect of a human-less workforce seems dystopian, Gawdat doesn’t see AI as the primary cause of job loss. He blames “money-hungry CEOs” who prioritize financial gain over responsible AI development. Instead, Gawdat advocates for a new value set that prioritizes humanity and regulation to ensure AI serves the greater good.
Gawdat’s warnings echo those of tech leaders like Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis and OpenAI chief Sam Altman. They predict AGI will surpass human capabilities by 2030 and believe it may be necessary to replace “evil” world leaders with AI to create a more moral society.
