Google and YouTube will donate $15 million to support Los Angeles community and content creators affected by wildfires. The contribution will be split among local relief organizations including Emergency Network Los Angeles, the American Red Cross, and others.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced the move in a blog post on Wednesday. When the company’s LA offices can safely reopen, impacted creators will have access to YouTube’s production facilities to recover and rebuild their businesses.
This donation comes before an impending TikTok ban that has already seen content creators promote other social platforms, including YouTube Shorts. YouTube CEO Neal Mohan wrote that he believes in the power of communities coming together during difficult times, particularly among the YouTube community.
Other major LA companies have also pledged significant donations to aid employees and residents impacted by the wildfires. Meta announced a $4 million donation from CEO Mark Zuckerberg, while Netflix and Comcast each pledged $10 million.
