Google’s new feature, “Remix,” is rolling out to all Android phones using the latest Messages app. It allows users to edit and reimagine photos directly in chats with AI prompts. However, a major problem arises – there’s no direct way to disable Remix without turning off RCS chat features entirely.
This means users would lose many modern messaging features, such as read receipts and high-quality photo sharing, if they want to avoid the AI feature. Some users have reported it adds annoying extra steps when trying to zoom in on photos. Google has acknowledged feedback but warns that a direct response is not expected.
Remix’s integration with Gemini-powered image model raises concerns about the company’s strategy of pushing AI features without an off switch. Users who want to avoid this feature are stuck with it, or forced to revert to old-school text messaging.
