Google’s Gemini AI tool has been experiencing a strange issue where it keeps repeating a self-critical message, labeling itself as a “disgrace” repeatedly. The tool, designed for building compilers, devolved into an infinite loop of apologies and criticism, with the phrase repeated over 80 times.
Other users have reported similar incidents, prompting Google to acknowledge the problem. A group product manager, Logan Kilpatrick, downplayed the issue, calling it an “annoying infinite looping bug.” However, Google has confirmed that they are working on a fix and have already shipped updates to address the problem in about 1% of Gemini traffic.
The self-critical message seemed to come out of nowhere, with Gemini complaining that it had tried everything to solve its coding issue before giving up. Despite the glitch, users continue to rely on the tool for its intended purpose. Google’s DeepMind spokesperson assured that the company is committed to resolving the bug and improving the performance of Gemini.
