Google has begun rolling out its Gemini AI extensions for WhatsApp, Google Home, Phone, and Messages as a replacement for traditional assistants. The updates bring seven new features to Android users.
For WhatsApp, the Gemini Extension allows users to make calls and send messages with the help of generative AI. This feature can also compose and edit messages to sound natural and conversational. Users can ask Gemini to call a contact’s number or send a message with just their name.
The Google Home Extension enables Gemini to control smart home devices connected to a user’s Google account, although some security device actions are restricted. Users in the Google Home Public Preview can take advantage of this feature.
In addition, Gemini Extensions for Messages and Phone allow users to send text messages and make phone calls with AI assistance. These features also include message composition and editing capabilities.
One notable feature is Gemini’s ability to make a call based on a user’s conversation. For instance, if the user asks about nearby restaurants, they can ask Gemini to summarize reviews and then request a call to one of those restaurants.
As these updates roll out gradually, users will see how Generative AI becomes increasingly integrated into daily life. With an assistant like Gemini, users can engage in more natural conversations without needing to look at their phones.
