Google’s Results About You Tool Gets Update for Easier Removals

Google has introduced an update to its Results About You tool, making it easier for users to request the removal of outdated or irrelevant search results containing their personal information. The new feature allows users to monitor and manage search results related to them online.

The update includes a new hub that showcases any relevant search results, which will be proactively monitored by Google. Users can opt-in to this feature and select specific details they want to track, such as names, phone numbers, or addresses.

To request the removal of a search result, users tap the three dots next to the result and select “Remove this result.” They must choose a reason for the removal, which can be due to outdated information, personal sensitivity, or legal reasons. Google will review the request and take down the result if it meets the necessary qualifications.

Additionally, users can ask Google to recrawl websites to get up-to-date information about them. This feature is seen as a compromise between Google’s desire for comprehensive data collection and the public’s growing demand for privacy.

To sign up for Results About You, users must go through their Google account settings, selecting “Manage your Google Account” > “Data & privacy” > “My activity” > “Other Activity” > “Results about you.” They can then set up their results settings, including notification preferences.
