Gophers Win Big Ten Thriller Behind Garcia’s Game-Winning Shot

Minnesota beat No. 20 Michigan 84-81 in a thrilling overtime game behind Dawson Garcia’s game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer. Garcia made the shot while being closely guarded by Michigan’s twin towers, Danny Wolf and Vladislav Goldin. The 6-foot-11 senior had 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Gophers.

A broken play involving Lu’Cye Patterson set up Garcia for the opportunity. Patterson intended to drive to the basket but instead passed to Garcia, who launched a high-arcing jumper that splashed through the net as the buzzer sounded. The crowd erupted as both teams celebrated, and head coach Ben Johnson praised his team’s execution.

“It’s a little bit of broken play, combined with they kind of know the concepts we’re trying to do,” Johnson said. Garcia, who was unsure how far past the half-court line he’d made it before shooting, credited Patterson for setting him up. “I trust him like he’s my brother,” Garcia said.
