Gophers Win WBIT Championship Behind McKinney’s Record-Breaking Performance

The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team ended their season with a 75-63 victory over Belmont in the WBIT final, securing one of the few championships for college teams. Key to this success was freshman guard Tori McKinney, who had a career-high 26 points.

McKinney hit 10 of 14 shots and four of seven three-pointers from beyond the arc. She also added three steals, assists, and was named the tournament’s most outstanding player. Her performance was impressive, especially in the first quarter where she scored seven points.

Coach praise for McKinney

Junior forward Mallory Heyer praised her teammate, saying she “was just everywhere tonight” with big shots and a strong defensive presence. The team’s success this season has been built on McKinney’s contributions.

McKinney reflects on her role in the team’s championship win, calling it a “big step” for the Gophers. Her achievements mark an exciting finish to an already successful season for Minnesota women’s basketball.
