Gordon Backs Byron’s Historic Win and Records

NASCAR star William Byron has broken one of Jeff Gordon’s most unique records after winning the Daytona 500, becoming the youngest driver to win two trophies in back-to-back years. Gordon, now a vice chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, is “in full support” of Byron’s achievement and believes he will go on to break all of his records.

Byron achieved this milestone at just 27 years old, taking the eighth Daytona 500 win for Hendrick history. The team owner, Rick Hendrick, was not present in person but congratulated Gordon on breaking his record. “It was just funny that that was a record that Jeff had,” Hendrick said.

Gordon won 93 times during his career, while Byron has secured 14 career victories so far. According to Hendrick, Byron is different from other drivers and is very smart, laser-focused, and able to accomplish what he has at a fast pace. The success of the team can be attributed to the combination of talent, crew chief Rudy Fugle, and resources.

Gordon recalled how Byron initially struggled with the pressure of driving the No. 24 car, but has since become comfortable and is building his own legacy. The win was particularly impressive as Byron slipped by on the outside on the final lap due to several cars in front of him crashing out.
