Grammys’ Soothing Fashion Shifts Amid Wildfire Tribute

The 2023 Grammy Awards took a more subdued approach to fashion on Sunday, as guests paid tribute to first responders and victims of LA’s recent wildfires. The all-black trend that dominated previous award shows was largely absent, with many attendees opting for more restrained looks.

However, some made a statement, like Miley Cyrus in a leather Saint Laurent dress or Olivia Rodrigo in a Versace halter-neck number. Lady Gaga set the tone with a somber Vivienne Westwood gown, while J Balvin’s long Dior Men coat and Billie Eilish’s sailor hat added a touch of whimsy.

Guests also showed their support for LA by wearing blue heart pins, which symbolized solidarity with MusiCares, a charity raising funds for music industry professionals affected by the fires. Several artists, including Brittany Howard, Jaden Smith, and Jacob Collier, were spotted wearing these pins.

Feathers made an appearance in several outfits, such as Sabrina Carpenter’s custom JW Anderson gown and Cardi B’s Roberto Cavalli Couture mermaid dress with a dramatic autumnal plume. Charli XCX and Chappell Roan, both nominated artists, wore gowns by Jean Paul Gaultier, one from 2025 and the other an archive piece from 2003.

The Grammys also saw several bold takes on nude, ranging from subtle to not-so-subtle. Ye’s wife Bianca Censori made a shocking appearance with a see-through slip dress that left little to the imagination.
