The Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has received a significant update three years after its launch, revitalizing the series and encouraging players to revisit classic games like GTA San Andreas and unlock new achievements. According to data from over 2.4 million Xbox accounts, the game’s player count has increased by 135% for GTA San Andreas – Definitive Edition.
The update, known as Title Update 1.112, restored the original lighting models from GTA Vice City and GTA III, making the games feel closer to their classic versions. The addition of a Classic Lighting mode in GTA San Andreas has particularly brought back the iconic orange hazy glow. This change has created buzz among fans and encouraged players to return to these classic games.
In addition to GTA San Andreas, the Xbox player count for GTA Vice City – Definitive Edition has risen by 300%, while GTA III – Definitive Edition’s player count has increased by 398%. The trilogy’s discounted price of 60% off during the Xbox Black Friday Sale 2024 is likely a contributing factor to the surge in players.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has commented on the Xbox Series S, stating that performance concerns are not an issue for upcoming GTA 6.
