Rockstar has released a major update for Grand Theft Auto V on PC, dubbed GTA V Enhanced. The update is free and offers significant improvements over the original game. To distinguish it from the previous version, the new update is labeled as GTA V Legacy in your Steam or Epic Games Store library.
Key system requirements include a 64-bit processor, Windows 10 (latest service pack), Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-9590 processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 or AMD Radeon RX 6400 graphics card. The recommended version has higher specifications, including a 64-bit processor, Windows 11, Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600XT graphics card.
GTA V Enhanced introduces several new features, including ray tracing support, global illumination, and ambient occlusion. It also supports upscaling for AMD FSR 1 and 3 and NVIDIA DLSS 3. The update features faster load times powered by DirectStorage support, enhanced 3D audio with Dolby Atmos compatibility, and support for the DualSense controller’s Adaptive Triggers feature.
However, some features are still missing, such as High-Dynamic-Range (HDR) displays. Additionally, the NVIDIA App does not recognize the new version yet, making it difficult to implement DLSS 4 transformer models. Rockstar has added built-in support for Dynamic Local Adjustment (DLAA), which can be selected directly in-game.
Testing on a high-end rig revealed significant visual upgrades, particularly with ray tracing and global illumination. The game runs smoothly, reaching an average of 123 frames per second in a free-roaming session. While some features are still lacking, GTA V Enhanced is the best version of the game yet.
The update may entice players to return to the game ahead of its next installment, GTA VI, which is rumored to launch sooner than expected in early 2026. Nevertheless, Rockstar must continue to address issues affecting PC users, such as the use of the Rockstar Games Launcher, to provide a more seamless experience.
