Greece Declares Emergency on Second Island Amid Ongoing Earthquake Swarm

A second Greek island has been declared a state of emergency due to a prolonged earthquake swarm in the Aegean Sea region. The declaration follows thousands of unusual tremors registered near islands Santorini, Ios, and Anafi, popular tourist destinations. Scientists had hoped the seismic activity was easing but recent earthquakes with magnitudes over 5 have renewed concerns. Emergency services are being rapidly deployed to the affected island, Amorgos, where a significant mobilization has already occurred on nearby Santorini. The region has seen over 12,000 earthquakes since January 26, with Greece experiencing frequent seismic activity due to its location in a highly active seismically zone.
