Greece to Spend €25 Billion on Military Modernization

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced a drastic overhaul of Greece’s defense system. The government plans to spend around $27 billion over the next decade, with new equipment including anti-aircraft defenses, drones, and satellites.

The move comes as the US pressures NATO allies to increase their military spending. Despite already meeting NATO’s 3% GDP threshold, Greece will make a significant boost to its defense capabilities in an effort to modernize outdated infrastructure and equipment.

Mitsotakis highlighted the need for increased investment in defense, stating that “the world is changing at an unforeseeable pace”. The announcement follows growing tensions between the US and NATO allies, including warnings from Trump about major economic instability if tariffs are implemented.
