Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs underwent knee surgery over the weekend due to a meniscus tear in his right knee. The surgery did not include any complications and will keep Hobbs out for the remainder of training camp, but he could return before Green Bay’s regular-season opener on September 7.
According to coach Matt LaFleur, Hobbs’ decision to have surgery was made due to concerns about potential long-term damage from playing with the injury. “I get paid to do this, so anything that’s a concern on my body, I need to try to get on right away,” Hobbs said in a statement.
LaFleur expressed confidence in his team’s ability to adapt without Hobbs and plans to get him back on the field as soon as possible. “We’re hoping to get him back here sooner than later,” he said.
Hobbs was signed by the Packers in March on a four-year, $48 million contract after impressing them with his physicality during training camp. He’s expected to start alongside Keisean Nixon at outside cornerback and will likely be replaced by Carrington Valentine until Hobbs returns.
The team has also brought back veteran cornerback Corey Ballentine, who played for the Packers from 2022-24 but was not re-signed until Monday.
