Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is undergoing a procedure to repair a ligament issue on his left thumb, which is his non-throwing hand. The team’s general manager, Brian Gutekunst, expects the injury not to be serious and for Love to return to practice next week.
Love has been the Packers’ starting quarterback since 2023, leading the team to two playoff appearances with a record of 18-14 in his two seasons as the starter. However, he has struggled against the Detroit Lions, going 1-3 in their games this season and losing both matchups from last year.
The Lions have traditionally contained Love, holding him to a low passer rating and completion percentage against divisional opponents. The Packers finished the 2024 season with an 11-6 record, but lost in the NFC playoffs to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite this, at least one NFL insider, Nate Davis of USA TODAY, predicts that the Packers will win their division title in 2025, while also expecting the Lions to secure a wild card spot. The Lions are set to open their season against the Packers on Sunday, September 7, at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.
