Grenade Thrower Injures 12 in Grenoble Bar Attack

A gunman threw a grenade into a bar in southeastern France, injuring 12 people on Wednesday evening. The attacker, armed with an assault rifle, entered the bar without warning and fled after throwing the grenade.

Prosecutor François Touret de Couvy described the scene, stating that the assailant was carrying the Kalashnikov-type rifle but did not use it during the attack. All victims were taken to the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital.

Local authorities condemned the “criminal act of unprecedented violence” and expressed sympathy for the victims’ families. Mayor Eric Piolle praised emergency responders for their swift intervention, while the national police reserves deployed to secure the area. The prefecture extended its support to those affected by the attack, calling it a “cowardly and criminal act”.
