Grenoble Bar Attack Leaves 12 Injured in French City

A grenade was thrown into a packed bar in Grenoble, France, leaving at least 12 people injured, including two critically. The attacker, carrying an automatic rifle, entered the bar on Wednesday evening and threw the grenade before fleeing without saying a word.

Prosecutors described the attack as “an act of extreme violence.” Investigators are looking into whether it was a gang-related incident, following a pattern of incidents in Grenoble linked to drug and cigarette trafficking. The attacker allegedly used an assault rifle but did not fire it during the attack.

The blast caused widespread damage, blowing out all the windows of the bar. Six people were seriously wounded, including three who required emergency surgery. Authorities condemned the attack as “cowardly” and “extraordinary violence.”

French health minister Yannick Neuder visited injured victims in hospital and described the attack as one of unusual violence. The incident highlights concerns over safety in Grenoble’s Olympic Village neighborhood at night, where residents feel vulnerable to crime and lack of enforcement.
