Greta Thunberg Deported by Israel Amid Gaza Aid Protests

Israel deported activist Greta Thunberg on Tuesday after a Gaza-bound ship she was on was seized by the Israeli military. The ship, Madleen, was carrying humanitarian aid intended to alleviate famine in Gaza’s population of over 2 million people.

Thunberg expressed her support for the other activists who were detained aboard the vessel, calling the situation “quite chaotic and uncertain.” She stated that the conditions faced by the detained activists are comparable to those experienced by Palestinians living under Israeli occupation.

Thunberg criticized Israel’s actions, saying they violate international law. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition described the detention as unlawful, politically motivated, and a direct violation of international law.

Gaza has been under a blockade since 2007, with varying degrees of restrictions imposed by Israel and Egypt. The blockade has pushed Gaza toward famine, with Palestinians relying almost completely on international aid for survival.

The incident highlights the tensions between activists seeking to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza and the Israeli military’s efforts to restrict such shipments.
