Gretchen Walsh Targets Records at ACC Championships

The ACC Women’s Swimming Championships are underway, with several top swimmers vying for titles and records. One name that stands out is Gretchen Walsh, who aims to add more Olympic-level rematches to her resume.

Walsh, the world-record holder in the 100 fly, faces a stiff challenge from Torri Huske at this week’s ACC meet. While Huske has made significant strides since their last meeting, including a drop in time that could put her within Walsh’s grasp of breaking the record, it remains to be seen if Huske can close the gap.

Walsh, meanwhile, is looking to reset American, NCAA, and U.S. Open records in various events, including sprint freestyle and 100 breaststroke. She will also face a strong field in these events, with swimmers like McSharry, Siroky, and Enge from Tennessee, Florida, and Texas vying for top spots.

Indiana is looking to make a statement in the Big Ten meet, while Michigan seeks to hold off Indiana’s freestyle depth. The SEC Championships will feature new arrivals and swimmers making big improvements this season, including Jillian Cox, who could take on Sims and Weyant in the 500 free.

The country’s top swimmers will converge at the NCAA Championships four weeks after these conference tilts, setting up what is to come. With several top events on the schedule, including the 200 free and 100 breaststroke, it promises to be an exciting few weeks for college swimming fans.
