The US Federal Trade Commission and Colorado State have filed a complaint against property firm Greystar, alleging that it misled consumers about rental costs by hiding fees. According to the FTC, Greystar advertised low monthly rents but later imposed hidden junk fees amounting to hundreds of dollars on tenants.
Greystar has denied the allegations, stating that the FTC’s actions are “headline-grabbing litigation” rather than efforts to improve consumer protection in the rental housing industry. The US agency claims that Greystar deceptively advertised low monthly rents to consumers, only to later impose excessive fees.
