Grimes expressed frustration with the “ADHD Memes” account, which made light of her struggles with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism. She stated that she wishes people wouldn’t pathologize reading as a child, as it’s actually a valuable tool for learning and development.
The singer also revealed that her symptoms of ADHD were worse when she wasn’t an avid reader. She believes that the diagnosis of ADHD has become increasingly linked to “screen addiction” and dopaminergic burnout, rather than being recognized as a valid condition.
Grimes’ diagnoses come amidst ongoing tension with Elon Musk, her ex-partner and co-parent, over their children’s well-being. She has been vocal about trying to keep their kids out of the spotlight and away from the White House.
