Grizzlies GM Zach Kleiman Blames Team Noise for Coach Jenkins’ Sudden Departure
The Memphis Grizzlies made a surprise move by firing coach Taylor Jenkins, with general manager Zach Kleiman taking sole responsibility for the decision. According to Kleiman, the team’s recent struggles, including four losses in their last five games, played a role in his conclusion that change was needed.
Kleiman stated that he did not consult with the players before making the move and would not comment on what specifically led to Jenkins’ dismissal. Despite this, Kleiman emphasized that Jenkins leaves the team in a stronger position than when he started.
The new interim head coach, Tuomas Iisalo, took charge after Jenkins’ departure and lost his first game to the Los Angeles Lakers. When asked about his approach, Iisalo emphasized the importance of control and focus on the present moment.
Kleiman expressed optimism about Iisalo’s ability to lead the team, citing “clarity of direction” as his primary expectation moving forward. However, he sidestepped questions about whether this season will serve as an audition for Iisalo to assume a full-time coaching role.
